Ventnor Under 13s Start Mal Sketchley Memorial League With A Win
|
The opening fixtures of the 2013 Under 13 league took place this week, with both champions Ventnor, and Ryde Cavaliers recording victories. The league has been renamed the Mal Sketchley Memorial League this season, in memory of the former Ventnor player/chairman/stalwart, who sadly passed away in December. Ventnor's 9 wicket win at Newport on Monday was achieved thanks to a real team performance, with nine bowlers being used as Ventnor restricted Newport to 84 for 7 in their allocated 20 overs. Island player Ben Attrill was the pick of the Ventnor bowlers, taking 2 for 4 from his three overs. Newport's Liam Dunne struck a patient 25 not out, supported by twin brother Josh, who scored 12. Ventnor opening batsmen Dan Cox and Louis Malkin set up Ventnor's victory, with Cox hitting 18 and Malkin 15 before both retiring. Ryde Cavaliers 36 run win against Porchfield was achieved thanks to a great innings of 45 not out from opening batsman Oliver Niemiec, who was well supported by Joe Butcher who struck 32 not out. George Kermode was the only Porchfield bowler who managed to take a wicket, while Porchfield's only batsman to reach double figures was Jack Lee who hit 14 not out in his team's total of 76 for 6. Porchfield's total was aided by 49 extras. Cavaliers used nine bowlers in the Porchfield innings, with Jack Millward returning great figures of 3 for 8 from his four overs. Northwood's game against Ryde was postponed due to rain, whilst no scorecard was returned for the East Cowes vs Shanklin fixture. |
