The Island Under 11's hosted Guernsey & Jersey over the Bank Holiday weekend and enjoyed victories in both matches. First up were Guernsey on Sunday at a sunny St Helens where the Island batted first and posted an impressive 223 from their 40 overs, thanks to 52 from Alfie Hancock & 50 from James Attrill. Harry Wratten pitched in with a quick fire 21 not out at the end. In reply, Guernsey posted 185 for 8 but never really got in sight of the Island's total thanks to some tight bowling, particularly from Hancock who took 2-33 from his 8 overs. Nine year old Ben Attrill put in a terrific display on his debut bowling four overs for just 8 runs. On Monday, it was over to Newclose where the Island entertained Jersey. The Isle of Wight again batted first and with a larger outfield than the day before, a score of 150 plus was the target. Boundaries proved hard to come by but captain Ross Whyte led the way with a hard hit 34 while James Attrill again impressed with 28 and wicket keeper Joe Martin hit 24. The Island finished on 167 for 7 from their alloted 40 overs and then man of the match Whyte tore through the Jersey team as he recorded figures of 6-27. Jersey were allowed to use 14 batsmen but thanks to George Willis with 3-24 and Ben Attrill with 2-24, Jersey lost all 13 wickets for 137 with 5 overs still remaining. |
