Bishop Lovett suffer Whyte wash

Ventnor and Bishop Lovett Under 13 Finalist Ventnor Middle School Boys followed up the success of their Girls when they completed a clean sweep of the Island Schools U13 Indoor Cricket trophies. They defeated Bishop Lovett MS in a very exciting final, scoring the 3 runs required off the last available ball of the match, for a 2 wicket victory.

Bishop Lovett had scored 90-2, with James Attrill making a steady 22no, and for most of Ventnor’s innings it looked enough. With 2 overs to go and with just 2 wickets remaining, Ventnor needed 30. But Ross Whyte, kept back for such a moment, thumped a quick-fire 24no including a 6 and 4 during the final over to leave Ventnor needing just a scrambled 3 off the last ball for victory. Ross was well supported by Luke Wedderkop who contributed 12no and some excellent running as Ventnor reached 91-4. It was hard luck on an excellent Bishop Lovett team which had bowled and fielded superbly till that last over.

In the semi-finals Ventnor MS beat Christ the King College, Ventnor’s 82-2, with Ross Whyte making 25no, being enough to see off a subdued Christ the King who totalled 72-1 in the available 10 overs.

Bishop Lovett MS won the other semi-final comfortably over Solent MS, who set a total of 88-2, Ben Duggan scoring 29no. Sensible batting by James Attrill (24no) and generously wide bowling saw Bishop Lovett to 90-2 and a 4 wicket victory with an over and half to spare.
