Caulkheads win a picnic against The Bears

The Isle of Wight disability side continued their season with the visit of Warwickshire. The IW quickly had The Bears in trouble at 5 for 2. A 59 run partnership between Sam Wyles and Karl Astley seemed to have steadied the ship. But the first bowling change altered the match again. Graham Sprack got rid of both batsmen in the space of 4 balls, and, after that, the Caulkheads bowlers were always in charge. Peter Atkins completed the task taking 4 wickets with a masterful display of legspin bowling on a helpful track. In reply, David Lloyd continued his excellent start to the season with a steady 49, and the opening partnership with Doug Randall of 87 had all but secured the match before 3 wickets fell in 9 balls. Peter Atkins, watching the carnage from the non-strikers end, then produced a little cameo of 16 runs from 6 balls faced to finally seal victory. Rory Phelan and Sam Wyles bowled well at the end for Warwickshire, but were unable to stem the runs. |
