England Under19s make winning start in Colombo

The England U19 team has won their first match of a seven-week tour which sees them compete in a Tri Nation tournament against Pakistan U19 and Sri Lanka U19, before heading to the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia.

The team arrived in Colombo on Saturday and played a warm-up match yesterday against Sri Lanka U19, winning by 12 runs as Duckworth Lewis came into play.

England U19 opener Billy Godleman (Middlesex) top-scored with 123, as England U19 posted 318-6 in their 50 overs. Tom Westley’s 3-27 ensured that Sri Lanka remained behind in the run chase.

The Tri Nation tournament starts on Wednesday, January 23 with the final on Friday, February 1. The tournament will take place at various grounds in Colombo.

The ICC Under-19 World Cup starts on Sunday, February 17 with the Final scheduled for Sunday, March 2 in Kuala Lumpur.
