IMPRESSIVE ISLANDERS BEAT LONDON

The Island's disability cricket side started the season in fine form at the weekend. Playing host to London CCCCA, who have joined the ECB Championship this year, the Islanders were quickly in their batting stride with an opening partnership of 29 off just 4 overs. But, losing Doug Randall in the 5th over bought together David Lloyd and Peter Atkins for another big unbroken partnership of 222, from just 25 overs. A new partnership record for the side. Lloyd scoring his 2nd century for the county and Atkins his 6th 50. Stefan McKenzie was the only wicket-taker for London. In reply, the London side never got going thanks to 4 very good bowling spells from Wayne Dunne (4 for 14) Graham Sprack (3 for 7) 'Baz' Matty Rice (2 for 11) and Peter Brown (1 for 7). The London middle order tried to stem the tide with some dogged defence lasting 16 overs, but in the end 2 good catches, Joe Landy's being an early contender for the season's Champagne moment, was the signal for the end of the resistance with the Caulkheads running out winners by 210 runs. |
