Newport lifted the Harwoods Renault Indoor Cup Fairway Sports Complex last Sunday in a low scoring final against Ryde Cavaliers. Cavaliers won the toss and elected to bat, but could only post a moderate 100 all out, as none of the batsmen were able to post an innings anchoring score. Newport got off to a steady start in reply before a clatter of wickets left them still needing 13 off the last 3 overs with just 1 wicket remaining. Roshan Dias (34no) looked unruffled by the tension to see Newport home with 8 balls to spare. Earlier in the evening Newport had booked their place in the final with a comfortable win over St Helens, with Tom Dye (46no) and L Payne (24no) the main contributors to a total of 147-4. Despite all 6 St Helens batsmen scoring runs the result never looked in doubt, the chase finally ending on 118-6. Ryde Cavaliers easily overcame Northwood in the second semi-final, despite posting a low score of 108-4 (A Johns 35no, M Hartnell 26no). The Northwood batting could not get to grips with the Cavs bowling, only Simon Goldsmith reaching double figures as Northwood crashed to 65 all out in reply. |
