Ryde Cricket Club played host for the first time to the annual Island v MCC match which was once again sponsored by Island Waste. The Cricket Board is indebted to Ryde for the magnificent way they staged the event and to Island Waste for their continued support of Island Cricket. Around 250 people attended the match which saw an emphatic win for the Island by 7 wickets. Choosing to bat first the MCC made a steady start, however after a brilliant caught and bowled by Marc Allen to dismiss Lawry for 13, the MCC side continued to lose wickets and at lunch were 4 down for 96. Simon Goldsmith took 2 and Steve Allwood 1.Top score for the MCC was Lamb with 25. After lunch an inspired spell of fast bowling from Mark Holmes, who took 5 for 12, saw the MCC side dismissed for 130, which is probably their lowest ever total against the Island. In reply the Island lost early wickets when Neil Westthorpe and Rob Snell were out but captain Danny Bishop with 43 and Tom Dye had taken the score to into the nineties before Bishop was out. After the tea interval Tom Dye, who ended not out 48 and Lawrence Tolfrey quiickly scored the remainiing runs required for the Island win. After the match Bruce Gilmore presented Mark Holmes with the man of the match award. This year for the first time, before the match and during the lunch interval ,four of the Island's Primary Schools (Carisbrooke, Gatten & Lake, Summerfield and Wroxall) played out the semi-finals and final of the Island Waste Primary Schools Cup which was won by Carisbrooke Primary.
