Ryde Win Under 15 Cup

Ryde U15 Captain Theo Dalloz receives the cup from Phil Mew The IW Under 15 Cup Final saw local rivals Ryde and Ryde Cavaliers meet for the third season in a row, with both sides having previously won one each. With Newclose bathed in glorious sunshine, the two captains tossed-up and having won, Cavaliers's Charlie Bligh chose to bat first.

It was Bligh himself who opened up, along with Dexter Collins, and the pair set about Ryde's opening bowlers of Harry Stead and James Ware. The score raced quickly to 34, but with the last ball of the fourth over, Bligh was caught by opposition captain Theo Dalloz off the bowling of Ware for 17, bringing Tom Sewell to the crease.

With Bligh gone, the scoring slowed dramatically, thanks in the main to some tight bowling from Ollie Morgan (1-11 off 4 overs), Rory Buckeridge (0-10 off 4) and Theo Dalloz (1-11 off 3). Collins fell to Morgan for 16 and Niall Powell was caught by Morgan off the bowling of Dalloz for 4. A late flurry of boundaries from Peter Wright (30 not out) and Tom Sewell (26) saw Cavaliers reach 119-4 from their 20 overs.

The Ryde opening pair of Buckeridge and Ollie Lovell batted very positively, picking up plenty of singles and dispatching the loose balls to the boundary. When Lovell was finally dismissed, caught behind by Collins off Will Tuffery for an impressive 43, Ryde were looking comfortable at 93-1. Buckeridge followed Lovell back to the pavilion in the following over, having been caught by Tuffery off the bowling of Peter Wright for a well crafted 45. Wright also picked up another wicket, bowling Ollie Morgan for 3. It was left to Dalloz (12 not out) to steer his team over the line, which he did with 17 balls to spare.

The cup was presented by Phil Mew of the IW Cricket board, with the umpires Neil Westhorpe and Martyn Richards, nominating Rory Buckeridge and Peter Wright as the Men of the Match.

This was Ryde's sixth consecutive appearance in the U15 Cup Final, but only their second win. They will now go on to play the winners of the Hampshire cup final in the National competition.
