Two defeats for Under 11039s

The Isle of Wight Under 11 cricket team travelled to both East Devon & Dorset last week for two 40 over games. The first game, played on a difficult wicket at Honiton in Devon, saw East Devon bat first and they were soon in trouble as George Willis (4-20), Harry Wratten (2-6) & Alfie Hancock (2-16) ripped through the top order. At one point Devon were 23 for 7 before eventually recovering to 84 all out. The ten man Island side struggled in the same way as their hosts as the ball bounced around and only three players, James Attrill(16), Willis(15) and Wratten(13), managed to make it in to double figures as the team slid to 78 all out and a 6 run defeat. Two days later the Island were entertained by Dorset B on a beautiful track at Dean Park, Bournemouth, the former first class county ground. Dorset batted first and scored well on a quick outfield but the Island took wickets regularly and managed to bowl Dorset out for 185 with Alfie Hancock taking 3-38, Ross Whyte 3-57 & Harry Wratten 2-24. The Island lost early wickets but when Whyte and Ben Baker put on a fifty partnership, there was still the possibility of an Island win. However when Baker was dismissed for 13 the wickets started to tumble again and although Whyte hit a magnificent 70, nobody else managed double figures and the team was dismissed for a disappointing 136 and a 49 run defeat. That leaves the Island side with two wins and two defeats for the season so far.
