CAULKHEADS RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

On the hottest day of the year, visitors Essex surprisingly elected to field, but were quickly rewarded with the run out of Wayne Dunne following a direct hit by Ronnie Jackson. A partnership of 46 between Dean Hodges(19) and Peter Atkins(21) settled the Caulkheads, and gave the platform for the later batsmen to post a good total. The latter part of the innings was held together by Man of the Match, Chris Hebberd(82), assisted by Peter Brown (48) and skipper Graham Sprack(27).
Matt Cowdrey and Zoheb Akbar both took 2 wickets for Essex.
Good spells by the Islands opening bowlers reduced Essex to 33 for 3, but a hard fought middle order partnership of 84 between Charlie Stack (41) and Matt Cowdrey (45) held the Islanders at bay for 17 overs, before an inspired double bowling change brought Dunne (2 for 24) and Atkins (3 for20) together to break the pair, and rip out the tail to seal victory by 71 runs.
