17 Jan 2016 Newport lost their unbeaten record on Sunday evening at the hands of East Cowes, meaning the winners of the indoor league will be decided this weekend, with Newport facing a double header against IW Prison Officers and Niton, needing to win both to guarantee the title.

Chris Higgins (52*) and Mark Hartnell (28*) scored the bulk of the runs as East Cowes posted a respectable 131-3. In reply, Gareth Bricknell made a good start for Newport with 37, but regular wickets from Rob Holdcroft (2-22) and Higgins (2-39) saw Newport collapse to 115 all out, East Cowes winning by 16 runs. Ryde defeated Northwood in a low-scoring match as the bowlers ran riot over the batsmen. Mark Oatley played a lone hand for Ryde as they posted 95, Gavin Paddock (2-19) and Ashley Goldsmith (2-20) taking two wickets each. Lawrence Tolfrey then took 3-18 as Northwood fell from 29-1 to 61 all out, Goldsmith top-scoring with 14. Niton inflicted another defeat on IW Prison Officers, who remain bottom without a win. Tom Doble (30*), Tom Wells (28*), Ben Fooks (26*) and Joby Wells (25*) all retired as IWPO made 155-1. Cyrus Dean (17) top-scored in reply, but IWPO were bowled out for just 63.

Ventnor remain top of Division 2 after they comfortably beat East Cowes II. Tom Stafford (40*), George Willis (26*), James Attrill (25*) and Martin Blackman (25*) piled on the runs in a total of 166-2. Blackman then took figures of 3-9 as no East Cowes II player reached double figures, a huge 60 extras helping their score along to 84. Island Bakeries claimed their second win of the season as they got the better of Godshill in the closest match of the night. Bakeries made 157-3 in the first innings thanks mainly to Sam Richards (35*), Steve Lewis (28*) and Tony Cook (26*). Richard Jones-Evans then took 2-35 for Bakeries as Godshill ended on 147-5 despite the best efforts of Jez Robinson (49*) and Ray Winter (31). Ryde II have overtaken Ryde Cavaliers into second place after beating them by 42 runs. Jadon Buckeridge (53*) and Mike Dalloz (45*) helped Ryde II recover from 57-3 to post 171-3 from their 12 overs. Liam Roberts (45*) and Matt Walter (25*) started well for Cavaliers, but tight bowling saw them fall short on 129-3. Cavaliers' defeat meant that Northwood II's win over Newport II saw them move into third position. An expert knock from Mike Watson (54*) saw Newport II post 112-5, John Jones the pick of the bowlers with 2-20. Callum Witham (27*) and James Whitewood (21*) then guided Northwood II home in the 11th over for a four-wicket win, Paul Attrill (2-27) with both of the wickets. Shanklin are level on points with Northwood II after a close victory over Ryde School. Matt Lambourne, Jack Powell and Callum Wright all scored 25 not out as Shanklin hit 147-2. Powell then took 2-30 for Shanklin as Ryde School faltered in their chase. However, James Fountaine made 28, before a wonderful 64 not out from Kyle Blair saw Ryde School edge closer, but ultimately fall short on 127-5.
