Northwood’s 1’s have secured promotion to Div 1 of the Leslies Motors Indoor Cricket League following the final round of games in the 2nd Division last Sunday. By defeating Ryde School, Northwood gained their 7th win from 8 games to pip Ryde Cavaliers into 2nd place and win the league 2 title by a mere 8 points. Ash Goldsmith was the Northwood star hitting 41 not out in their total of 120-4 and then taking 4 wickets for 8 runs in their convincing 72 run victory.

Ryde Cavaliers also had a solid 66 run win to end their season against Island Bakeries. Cavaliers’ Joe Butcher hit 50 not out and was supported by Tommy Barton (43 not out) as their total of 171-4 proved too many for Bakeries (105-6) despite a battling 36 from Kieron Annis.

Prison Officers finished 3rd after a comfortable 6 wicket triumph over Godshill. After restricting Godshill to 82 all out, the Officers’ Tom Killeen hit 30 not out to see his side home in just 7 overs.

The other game in Div 2 saw Cowes finish at the foot of the table following their 5 wicket defeat to Health Associates. Not out scores from Scott Rice (28) and Jack Summers (26) helped Cowes set a target of 120-2 but it was not enough as similar not out knocks from Souvik Sanyal (28) and Richard Lloyd (27) made sure the Associates reached their target.

The only game in Div 1 last Sunday was a significant one in the title race as Ryde kept up the pressure on leaders EPP after a 58 run triumph over Shanklin. Batting first, Ryde struggled early on and were indebted to good knocks from Geoff Kite (34 not out) and Stuart Robertson (42) in setting a target of 152-5. Although Ben White continued his great batting form by hitting 27, Shanklin could only hit 94 in reply.

3 sides - EPP, Ryde and Ventnor - will be battling for the Div1 title when the indoor league season comes to an exciting conclusion next Sunday.
