The Caulkheads win again

The disability side booked their place in the ECB/BACD County Championship semi final with their best display of the season so far against the might of Hampshire, to finish top of the Southern group.
With both teams depleted by England LD XI call ups and injuries, it was left to fringe players on both sides to shew their emerging talents.
A slow start on an interesting batting track saw the Island side reach 31 after 12 overs, with David Lloyd (26) taking the bulk of the strike from new opening partner Wayne Dunne. When 5 wickets then fell in 11 overs as the Caulkheads moved to 69 (Peter Atkins scoring a measured 23) in the 23rd over They looked to be in trouble, but Matt Goulding had, by now, taken over from Lloyd in the anchor role, and nursed a weak-looking tail end throught the next 18 overs to a defendable total of 113.
All the Hampshire bowlers bowled really well on the day with manager Jamie Legg's 8 overs going for a miserly 16 runs and picking up 4 wickets. Dino Ronaldo (3), Will du Plessis (2) and "Triple H" Hugo Hammond shared the other wickets.
In reply, Hampshire quickly reached the mid 30's, but, like the Island side earlier, found the track quite tricky to conquer, and their wickets fell with alarming regularity especially once Nathan Kozel and Lewis Winter had held catches to dismiss the Hampshire opening pair, and Lloyd and Atkins adding a catch each to reduce the Northerners top order to ruins, with Dunne, Goulding and Graham Sprack collecting the 10 wickets from 16overs between them only conceding 56 runs in the process.
In the end, both sides amassed enough bonus ponts to go through to the Championship semis, and eagerly await the last results from the northern group to determine who they meet.
Grateful thanks once again to Wight Crystal for supplying bottled water for the day, and Wightlink, for their assistance when Bluebell broke down just as we got to the Fishbourne terminal
